(Research shows that the average American watches as much as six hours of television each day. Do you think this is too much? Write an essay convincing readers to spend less time in front of the T.V)

          There are many ways in which we can spend our free time. The activities are numerous, but we sometimes tend to abuse the opportunities that we have been offered. For instance people tend to watch too much television every chance they have spare time. They do not realize that when watching too much television there are consequences. Television is not over all something negative, it nice to sometimes watch a game with friends or family, but when you abuse the time you spend watching TV it can be harmful.  

            One physiological effect that TV can cause when watching it in a great amount of time is eyestrain. When watching TV it should be placed at the same height as your eyes, and the room should be lit. These preventions however, do not prevent your eyes from getting tired when watching too much television. Television can also cause lack of concentration, especially in children. This disadvantage affects even the smallest of noises disturbances from a task at hand. Television has also been known for being responsible for the bad habits in children, especially in teenagers. Young children tend to imitate and be like the characters they see on TV, from the way they talk to how they dress and behave.  Also the sudden flashes of light shown on TV can cause serious damage to the human eye, can cause temporarily blindness, and migraine if a person watches too much television. Another side effect of watching too much television is poor health. Watching TV all day for a long period of time can lead to physical health problems. Children can develop a weak body, it can also contribute to child obesity, and sleep disruption.

                        Watching too much TV has many effects, especially for young children. With all of the options we have to spend our spare time, we have to be wise about our choices. WE need to choose something that is both beneficial and relaxing to our body. It is okay to watch television for an hour or two a day, but we should not exceed this amount. Watching too much TV can cause our body to be weary and produce migraines. There have been many studies that show all of the negative effects of over exceeding the time we spend watching television. Next time we have spare time, make sure to choose a wise decisions with all of the activities that surrounds us anything is better than hurting your body in front of a television set.

Setting as the World

I have not had an opportunity to live in a house that we can call our own. We have always

rented, it was either an apartment or a duplex. Ever since I could remember I know that the living

room was my favorite room in the house. The living room was a place where we can relax and

spend time as a family. One particular activity I remember doing in that room was when it was

baseball season my dad and me would watch all the games of the season together.

            When I knew that there would be a game that day I would get the living room ready for

when my dad got home from work. I would make sure it was clean and comfortable. When he

got home I would inform him who was playing and what time they were going to play. He would

get home shower and eat dinner. After he did that I would sit in his lap and watch the game, but

in every game before it began we would have a bet and each choose a team. At the end if my

team won ( which in most cases it did) I would receive a reward, whether it was money or a toy.

This was my favorite room in the house because I would bond and spend time with my dad.

Even though he would come home tired from work, we never missed watching a season game

together.

Semester Essay #8

                                               Single Sex Schools

(All girls schools have been gaining popularity in recent years because of the belief that girls learn better when they aren’t competing with or intimidated by boys, who statistically get more attention in the classroom. Do you think single sex schools are a good idea? Why or why not? Use specific reasons and examples to support your position.)

            The concept of single sex schools to some student’s sounds like something they will never want to experience. For others they think that it will be better because there will not be any distractions between the male and female sexes. The truth is that there are advantages and disadvantages to single sex schools.

            Some of the advantages of single sex schools are that children learn and perform better in their education. They perform significantly higher on standardized tests when both sexes are attending different schools. At an all girl school, teachers used the latest techniques to keep up with the female learning style. The teachers did this because studies have shown that boys and girls need different ways of learning because they’re brains function differently. Without boys in the classroom girls become more confident and participate in class discussions. Being more confident and being able to comprehend the concept more clearly allows them to perform well on exams. Girls in single sex schools also take on the roles of leadership whether it’s in sports or academically.

            Some disadvantages are student diversity at single sex schools. It can also provide students difficulty at single sex schools to adjust to a co-ed environment after attending a single sex school. The real world does not only come with one sex and for these students who attend single sex school will become a problem to adjust to this world.

            I believe that students should be able to choose where they want to attend school. A single sex school or co-ed school should not base the academics of the students. A student will perform academically based on themselves and not what school they are attending. Like I previously said there are advantages and disadvantages to this type of schools system, but students are all different and in most cases have a different experience on the school they are placed. I do not think  single sex schools are a better option over co-ed schools both school systems offer different things and the decision should be on the student.

Semester Essay#7

Children Allowances

(Many parents give children a weekly or monthly allowance regardless of their behavior because they believe an allowance teaches children to be financially responsible. Other parents only give children an allowance as a reward for completing chores or when they have behaved properly. Explain what you think parents should do and why.)

            Parents have different opinions on whether an allowance at an early age is appropriate or not. Some believe that children should receive an allowance whether or not the child behaves properly. Most financial experts say that an allowance at an early age is a good idea because the child learns financial responsibility.           

      A parent can provide a child with an allowance as young as three or five. This is the appropriate age because this is the period where children want material items. An allowance can provide a child with understanding the concept of budgeting and saving. If a child is provided with a weekly allowance it helps the kids take responsibility on spending decisions and  encourages independence on the child.

            The controversial topic on whether a child should be given an allowance based on chores or good grades or just given on a weekly base is debated all the time. Child development experts say that generally giving children an allowance based on chores and good grades is generally not a good idea. The problem in this idea is that it undercuts the idea of the family morals. It also undermines the lessons parents want to teach their children and it becomes manipulative. I personally do not see any harm in this idea. Children will learn responsibility because in performing a chorethey know they have helped the family and will receive an award which is money for their work. They will learn responsibility and be prepared for when the time comes for them and engage in the work place. They will have experience because if they know they’re performance should be impeccable then they will be rewarded.

            An allowance can also be beneficial to children because they can save the money they receive. All children are different; some need more encouragement than others when it comes to the concept of saving. Some children who save on their own and is very difficult for them to spend money. For those children who don’t want to save, parents should require these children to save a portion of their allowance, but at the same time parents should make saving something fun. 

      Since parents have different perceptive on the way they want to teach their children about allowances, there might not be a right or wrong way in about dealing with the situation. In my opinion I believe that children should be rewarded on when they’re performance is good. Children should not be rewarded if their behavior is inappropriate because the child will know that they will receive an allowance regardless of their behavior.

Personal Essay

A time in my life that I have confronted disappointed was during my tennis season at school. When we had finished playing all of the teams in the ocean league, we were told that we the Inglewood High School team was tied in third place with Culver City High School. In order to break the tie we had to have a tie breaker game. We knew that how we performed in this game was going to decide what place we were going to play in the finals. We all wanted to win so we were going to do our best in our matches. When it was time to begin, we were all very nervous. As the matches began I was concentrated and was determined to win. When I won the first game of the match I began to feel more confident. As the match continued it was really close, we were both doing well. When I would score a good point she will return one as well. At the end she won the overall match. When I played my second match I was exhausted by the first match and knew because I was tired I had to play even better. My second match was a repeat of what happened in my first match. I came out to be fairly close and we were both given it our all, but at the end I once again had lost a match. I was very disappointed because if I would have tried a little harder I know I would have won both of my matches. Both matches turned out close but I was not satisfied knowing that. I wanted to win my matches so our team could take third place in the finals. Even though I lost my matches I knew how to handle the situation, I was not so hard on myself because I tried my best and in the finals I will not give up and give it my all.

Memoir

A time when I was misjudged by someone by my appearance was the very first time I went to Mexico with my family for the Christmas holidays. The first days that we were there I encountered a girl that lived in the same city that my parents were from. Since she saw me she disliked me. She began to judge me without even knowing me. She began to spread rumors about me and I did not know of this until my cousins informed me of what was being said about. The girl was telling people wrong facts about who I was. I truly do not know why she would do this because within the first days I was there and never seeing her before I did not understand why she disliked me and why she would spread rumors about me. When I spoke to my mom about the situation she told me that she was the type of girl that did that because maybe she was jealous of what I owned, and in order to take out her jealousy she would de negative things toward me. People who misjudge people based on their appearance is wrong. You should not judge someone on their appearance because an appearance does not define someone’s personality. You should not make assumptions about a person based on the way they look.

Cats vs. Dogs

Cats are skilled in jumping and climbing, they prefer to climb a tree and have the ability to just from a high altitude. Dogs cannot climb so they do not have that advantage when put into a difficult situation. When challenged, they will most likely become aggressive and attack. They are also more social than cats. Cats usually tend to keep to themselves and prefer to be separate from other animals. While dogs enjoy the company of other dogs and people too. Dogs will let people pet them and play with them. This situation is one that will not happen with cats. In a typical situation cats will runaway when they see that someone or another animal is going to approach them. They will not let anyone that they do not recognize come near them and in some cases they will not let their owners come near them either. Another difference between cars and dogs is that cats are quicker than dogs. They can catch their pray quicker when they hunt. Because dogs do not have the same hunting abilities as dogs they were gifted with a great sense of smell and the ability to track down. Either way these both species will make a good pet. It all depends on a persons preference.

Dressing for a Formal Occassion vs. Dressing for an Informal Occassion

Dressing for a for formal occasion requires you to think about the event you are going to attend and how formal the occasion is. You have to then think about what will be the best appropriate way to dress for the occasion. Even though the occasion may be formal you can not always wear an outfit that may seem formal. There are different occasions  within formal dressing. For instance you cannot wear an outfit that is suited for a job interview to a ball. Even though both of these occasions are seen as formal, you cannot wear one outfit for both events. They both require to dress differently when bening attended. When you are dressing for an informal occasion it is alot easier to choose an outfit. You can practicaly wear anything you prefer depending on the weather. You can wear anything, for some people they choose to pick an outfit based on the type of mood they are in. When you dress for an informal occassion your outfit is casual and somthing you feel comfortable in. When you dress for a formal occasion most of the time you dress to impress. The difference between these two type of dressing occasions is that one requires less thinking about your outfit than the other.

Raw Foods vs. Cooked Foods

Raw foods are a type of food that is completely uncooked. It does not have any type of ingredients, shape or form.  On the other hand coked foods are a type of food that is completely cooked or cooked based on the preference of a person. Cooked foods also are added ingredients too when cooked. When cooking people can experiment and add anything that they like into their foods. Also when cooked foods tend to become a different texture and form. They are no longer the same shape as when they are raw or uncooked. Raw foods are not necessarily uncooked meat, raw foods can also be for instance, a fruit. When you eat a fruit it can be considered raw because you have not cooked it or added any special ingredient to it, but when cooked the texture changes and also the taste because you have added other ingredients. Both raw and cooked foods are satisfying and come in a variety of options to choose from. The difficult part is choosing one and one that will satisfy your hunger.

Spicy Foods vs. Sweet Foods

Spicy Foods and Sweet Foods are completely different types of foods. They are both made from different type of ingredients. Spicy foods, like within its name is composed of various types of spices to make the food have flavor. Also after eating a spicy food you begin to grasp for air and water because of the senstion that spicy foods leave in your mouth after eating them. Sweet foods usually have sugar and are more enjoyable than  spicy foods. These two types of tastes for foods appeal to certain people. People can enjoy either one of these types of foods or even both at a time. It all depends what you are in the mood for at the particular moment. Some people might prefer something soft that melts in your mouth, for instance a piece of cake. Others may prefer something that pops in your mouth and leaves you wanting more of the hot and spicy sensation. Which ever you prefer they are many delicious type of food plates that belong to these two categories and all make great options to enjoy.

Weather Affects Your Mood...?

Ever been cranky when it is too hot? Have you ever been listless or depressed when its cold or rainy? A way that has been proven and documented that the weather can affect your mood is called SAD. SAD stands for Seasonal Affective Disorder. SAD is a syndrome characterized by depression during winter months when there is less daylight.there is some evidence that says that the weather can affect our mood. But not documented, I believe we can judge for ourselves, as well. If you have ever been happy and energetic on a bright sunny day, or sad and depressed or lack of energy on winter days or rainy days, or if you have been irritable on an extremely hot day, you have proven that, the weather does have some physical, however minimal, and/or psychological affect on our mood.

Public Schooling VS. Homeschooling

For many families, home schooling children is a viable alternative to public education for several important reasons: Strengthening the family, providing adequate education, and to promote moral and religious values.
With a perceived declining in the educational quality of the public school system in America, many parents are coming to the belief that homeschooling can offer their children a better education and result in better opportunities later on in life.Research on homeschooling thus far strongly supports the thoughts of homeschooling parents. An extensive nationwide study showed that home schooled students outperformed their public and private school counterparts in every category. In fact, many homeschool students are enrolled in a grade level that is higher than their counterparts of the same age. But for some families, a better education isn't the only reason to homeschool. Protection from the harsh world that encourages deviation from a successful path is another, as is the opportunity to strengthen the family.Additionally, many people believe that public education is not up to the standards that a home school education can provide. No one is more invested in a child's education than his parents and a home school curriculum can help a child's ability to learn. For instance, a school teacher may grade your child's paper and tell him which answers are correct, and which are incorrect and leave it at that. But parents who are homeschooling their children, can spend time to explain to them why the answers are right and wrong, in order to help them learn more thoroughly.

Understanding and Knowledge...

Understanding is very different from knowledge, even though it is made from knowledge. Understanding is a process that takes time and requires energy. Knowledge is familiarity with facts, which you may have learned through study, observations, or personal experience. Understanding you can distinguish or judge between two things. We could learn about something in great detail, accumulate many facts about it, and yet not really understand it. To understand something is to gain the meaning or essence of something. Understanding also implies being able to apply your understanding. Understanding is also called intellection, it is a psychological process related to an abstract or physical object, such as a person, situation, or message. Knowledge acquisition involves processes: perception, learning, and communication. The term knowledge is also used to mean the confident understanding of a subject with the ability to use it for a specific purpose.

Most Effective Teacher..

The most effective teacher that i have ever had has been my six grade teacher, Ms.Nigisah. This teacher will push me to always do my best in everything i do. She will help me whenever I did not understand something in class. Her way of explaining the subject and knowing how to teach it was effective to me because i would understand what she was teaching and because i understood I was always the top student in my class. Because i would understand the subjects and know what  was being taught, she wanted me to challenge myself and get involved in things that would challenge my intelligence. She enrolled me in the science fair. I did not know I was going to be in the science fair because it was a last minute thing, so I was unprepared. I did not get a chance to be in the first, second, or third place, but i did get an award for having participated in the science fair. I believe that i did not make it to those positions because I was not prepared and i was told at the last minute. She also suggested that I begin to take college classes because she was impressed with my intelligence and wanted me to have more opportunities. She was a big influence in my life and taught me many things, but the most important thing that i learned from her was to always do my best because with effort you can achieve your goals.

Lack of Sleep..

Many people do not get enough sleep as they should. When we do not get enough sleep we wake up tired and cranky. Sleep is one of the most important processes for our body. After one sleepless night, we can feel the effects of sleep deprivation. Continuedsleep deprivation can result in trouble concentrating, blurry vision, and impaired judgment. After just a few days without any sleep, people begin to experience hallucinations and nausea. Sleep deprivation also affects our physical abilities. Sleep deprivation also has an effect on how the brain stores information. If a person does not get enough sleep during the night it is most likely that the next morning when it is time to wake the person will not want to get enough sleep because that night they did not sleep. During the day the person will feel tired and not have the energy to do any tasks. The person will only be thinking about sleep and not be focused during the day. With lack of sleep the person will not be aware of what they are doing and not put effort into what they are doing.

A Walk To Remember..

In Beaufort, North Carolina, a prank on a student goes terribly wrong and puts the student in the hospital. Landon Carter, a popular student with no defined plans for the future, is held responsible and forced to participate in after-school community service activities as punishment, which include starring as the lead in the school play. Steps to Take In Learning a New Language...

When we think adding new words to our vocabulary it can seem overwhelming, especially when we have a certain amount of time to learn these new terms and language. If your goal is to learn a new language one of the most successful options to do this is by an audio course. In the first step you will need to find time in which you can fully concentrate on what you are doing. This specific place will vary among people. The most important thing is to find a place and time that fits in your schedule. Step number two, it is important to eliminate distractions. In step number three if you are asked to respond to the audio voice make sure your response is loud. This helps your brain to be impressed with what you are saying. Step number four, use two or three phrases and turn them into a conversation. In step number five as you continue to learn the new language learn to advance your phrases into a normal conversation. As you study your new language make sure to study very night and before you know it you will have learned a new language.

Ateending College Out Of State...

Many students want to break away from their family by attending a college that is out of their home state. If you are considering attending an out of state college for your college education you need to follow a few tasks. You will need to pay much higher college tuition as an out of state student. That means you will most likely need to borrow more money for college. It may be more difficult to obtain a college scholarship. Most often colleges have scholarships that are geared to their in state students. You will be far away from home and may not be able to see your family as often. Traveling back and forth between college and your home cn be a hassle, and it will also be expensive to travel back and forth. You may not know anyone when arriving in this new state. You will also need to set up a bank account and other personal information in your new state. You also have to find a job to support yourself and provide yourself with everything you need. Attending college in other state takes several steps to settle in and can be a hassle.

Recycling Semester Essay #5

            Carpooling and planting trees are some of many ways that we can help our environment.

These activities are beneficial for our environment because both of these activities are helping

preserve the environment. Many people do not do anything when it comes to helping the

environment, most people believe that the subject is not as important as some people make it

seem.  These people should not have that mentality because earth is our home and the

environment that surrounds us everyday provides us with advantages in our lives, and if we do

not make an effort to better the environment that we live in the benefits that the environment

brings us will not last.

        People should become more active when it comes to activities that will benefit our

environment. An activity that is fairly simple that will benefit the environment extremely is

recycling. Recycling should be an activity that we should all be able to do because the product s

that we need to recycle are within our household. 

        Recycling is the process of turning any products useful parts to make an entirely new

product. The reason this is done is to conserve the consumption of resources and space, and most

importantly space used in our landfills. Statistics show that the benefit of recycling one plastic

bottle saves anywhere from 100 to 1000 years in the landfill, it also saves the environment from

producing new bottles and the oil used in producing the bottles. When we do not recycle, at least

our glass and aluminum we cost the earth in power, water, oil and landfill usage. Glass takes

approximately 4000 years to decompose in a landfill, but when recycled it can be indefinitely. 

       Recycling is an extremely eco friendly activity, by reusing your recycled storage

containers you save on the environmental impact. By just taking a moment and putting your

newspapers, plastic and glass bottles, or aluminum cans in a recycling bin will save years in

environmental harm from production of new material. It will also decrease overcrowded landfills

and the consumption of our natural resources. We can recycle mostly any product, we only have

to make an effort in wanting to help our environment and preserve it. By not getting involved we

are saying that we do not care about earth, the place that is our home. Get informed, become

activate and become eco friendly to show that our environment is important to us.

Music Video...

The music video Just The Way You Are by Bruno Mars looks like it takes place in an apartment. There is a guy and a girl sitting in opposite sides from each other. When the guy walks in he takes the cassette from the girl and takes the tape out of the cassette. He puts the tape over a table in front of the girl and with the tape he writes out the name of the song and the name of the artist. When the music begins to play he forms a pair of eyes with the tape because in the beginning of the song he talks about the girls eyes. The guy then does the same thing for the next thing he talks about in the song, which is her hair, with the tape he forms a girl with big hair. He then begins to sing to her. The song begins to talk about about her features and how he finds every feature beautiful and unique. It also says that when he tries to compliment her she does not believe what he is telling her, he wants her to see what he is seeing which is beauty. He tells her that when he sees her face , he would not change a thing about it because he believes she is amazing just the way she is. What she thinks are her imperfections he finds them beautiful and he wouldn't want her to change them. His overall message is that he does not see any imperfections on her, he finds everything about her to be beautiful and he wishes that she would realize that too.

People and Animal Relationships...

Many people have a close relationship with their pets. They treat their pets as if they were a member of their family. A pet can become the best friend of a person. Older people need a pet to not feel lonely, when you become old you do not have anything to do and if you are alone you might need someone to care for. A pet can keep them company and occupied. With a pet they have something to care for and look after, they'll be able to feed it and show them love. A pet can develop a relationship for anyone of any age. People usually want a pet because they like that specific animal, others want a pet for the companion. Any pet can win over someones heart. If you look after a pet, they will show you their gratitude and over time you will begin to develop a relationship with the pet and begin to love them. Anyone who owns a pet, the pet becomes an important part of their life. Pets can teach humans how to care for another living thing, they can be a friend and companion. Relationships that people have with animals is important because animals sometimes need the help of humans to take care of them, they can not always survive on themselves. Animals can become a big part of someones life and when they become part of a family they bring benefits to the family.

Teenage Fad...

Some teenagers are expressing their feelings for one another through a new fad, biting. This new fad came about because of the concept of vampires in movies and in the media. Most fads are brought about in the media, in movies television, and magazines. The vampires portrayed in today's media are not vampires of the past, today's vampires display feelings of love. There are plenty of vampire themes in the media. Biting is taking over this generations hickey. Biting is seen as a form of affection that symbolize ownership. If someone has a a bite or hickey, the person is usually connected with a partner. This fad came about because of hit movies that portrayed vampires as the theme. These people became fans of the movie and of the theme. because they became fans they wanted to imitate what they saw on in these movies. They saw the concept of the movies to be harmful and began to develop this fad to portray the characters they saw in these movies. Because the media is so powerful, and it is especially directed to teens, anything can become a fad and because the media is mostly directed to teens the fad gains popularity fairly quickly.

Strawberry Cheesecake..

A creamy, cheesy, and delicious cake. It oozes with delicious strawberries sauce, it is a sweet topping. The generous helping of strawberries compliments the creamy cheesecake base beneath. Served with a traditional graham cracker crust. Smooth and rich, heavy and yet so easy to swallow. Melts in your mouth and leaves you longing for just one more bite. Even if people think that they will not like it, they should give it a try because it truely is a delightful dessert.

Life Without Cellphones..

Considering that technology is advancing everyday and new inventions are forming, life without the invention of cellphones would be completely different. Now a days people rely a majority of their life on their phones. People can not step out of their house without having their phone in their hand. People use their phone to communicate with their friends, family, or they also use it for business relating topics. cellphones are so advanced that you could practically do anything with a cellphone. The majority of cellphones can provide you with Internet access, and some people use this opportunity to check their emails if they have important business emails they are waiting for. Also the Internet on cellphones can be used to research something if you need it that instant. The majority of cellphones also provide a camera and a video recorder. With this service you no longer need to also bring a camera along where you go. Because cellphones are advancing everyday and they provide all of these features and more modern life would not be the same without cellphones. To some people cellphones is n item that must be with them all the time for any purpose, they no longer use a cellphone to only make a call.

Europe...

The foreign country that I would like to visit is Europe, Europe is filled with old world style culture and history. Where i would go first it to London, in London I would go see the Big Ben. Big Ben is the clock that is located within the House of Parliament. It is one of the most famous landmarks in London. The bell chimes every 15 minutes so everyone can hear it. In London there is also The Buckingham Palace, it is probably one of the most famous buildings in London. Buckingham Palace is where the queen lives. I would also go to Paris, one of the most famous landmarks there is the Eiffel Tower. When at the top of the Eiffel Tower you can see all of Paris. I'm sure it looks especially special before sunset and after the sun has set. At night you can see all of the lights in Paris twinkle in the twilight. In Paris there is also the Notre Dame, a cathedral. Italy will also be in my top choices to visit. In Italy there is the Leaning Tower of Paris, this is a landmark that when it was built it began to sink into the ground making it lean to one side, to this day it is still sinking at a low rate. Europe is filled with interesting and historical landmarks, this is one of the reason why I would choose Europe to one day visit.

Friends Birthday..

Different friendships have different ways to celebrate birthdays. Birthday celebrations depend on the personality of the persons who's birthday is coming up. I have to think about their personality and what they will like to receive as a present or what activity they would like to do. Once I figure out what their personality is then now I can have an idea of what kind of present to give them. I would go shopping for their present, I while shopping you may find something that you like, but you also have to think about if they will like it as well. If you believe they wont, you need to keep looking. Once you think you have found the right present, then you should call them and ask if they could meet you somewhere that afternoon. You would surprise them with the present and after giving them the present you will invite them somewhere. It could be to a party, or out to eat, something you both will enjoy. If my friends birthday was coming up this is something I would do for them.

Decade To Live In...

If I could live in decade I would choose to remain in the decade which we live now, the twenty first century. I would choose to remain in this decade because I believe it is the most advanced and it is easier to make a living. The life i this decade is easier because the technology is advanced and it is still advancing. There is technology for practically anything that makes our lives easier. There are computers, in which we can research practically anything we want and we no longer have the only option to do our research by reading a book. Besides the technology making our lives easier there is also technology that makes our lives enjoyable, for instance there are mp3 players or ipods, High definition television, and many more. Technology is not the only thing that is advanced so is the fashion. The way people are dressing is changing everyday, something that people in other decades did not have the opportunity to do. Also ways of working in your jobs is easier, There is now machinery that will make your job easier. If I had an opportunity to live in any decade I would definitely remain were I am because this decades provides us with more opportunities for our lives.

Article about a Newly Arrived Person

If I was asked to write an article about a person newly arrived from another i would want to ask many questions. I would first have to interview the person and after the interview decide on which information i want to include in my article. I would want to ask them why is it that they left their country to come to America. Another question relating to that would be, Was it because of war or were you running away from something or someone? I would also ask if there was a specific reason why they chose to come to the United States. Was it for a job or because they had family members that live in this country. The main focus of my article would be their experience in coming to this country. What difficulties did they face? What did they leave behind? Do they regret this experience? I would want to ask questions that will intrigue readers to continue reading my article. I will make the article informative yet interesting at the same time.

My parents...

I have numerous reasons why i appreciate my parents. My parents have been through alot in their life. They both have had to work at a young age to help support their families. They both have had a tough childhood and learned to get through life with difficulties. They both came to this country because they didn't want their children to have the same life that they had in their childhood. They wanted their children to have a descent life and get an education, something that they did not have a chance pursue. They hope that my brother and I pursue an education so we will have a descent lifestyle in our future and have a career that we enjoy doing. My Parents have worked most of their life and until this day they are still working. they work to provide my brother and me with all the necessities that we need and to also to not have to work, because they say it will intervene with our education and nothing is more important than our education. My parents dislike their job , but they go to their job everyday. That makes me appreciate them because i know that they are doing it for my brother and me. I appreciate my parents because even though their life has not been easy they have not given up, they are my motivation. Because of them they motivate me to do well in school and pursue a career that I like, so that one day I will be able to provide for them and repay them for everything that they have done for me.

Family History...

Many family members are not fond of their family history, they do not wish to know of their family history. At times when we ask questions about our family history we could find out interesting things like something historical that occured in our family or family members that could have been famous. If we do not ask questions or are intrigued to know where we come from or how our family arrived where we are, we will not fully know who we are and not know things that occurred in our family. If i had a chance to ask an older relative about my family history I would like to know everything. I would like to know about every single detail, who are the members that first arrived ,who they were,and what they did. I would want to ask if any interesting fact happened within my family and if so what it was. I would not want to restricted to asking a certain amount of questions, i want to know everything eve if it might take days or even months to know about my family history. I want to be able to know where i came from and who were the people that have passed throughout my family history.

Choosing the right College...

Choosing where you ant to go to college is a personal decision and frequently a stressful decision as well. You must determine what you might like to study or major in college. Many students enter college undecided, which is fine, but it is best to have some idea of a career or major. When you have an idea of what you might want to major in can also help the process of finding the right college. You should also create a list of the colleges you are considering and the ones that you are not. Also ask yourself questions, Do you want to live close to home or faraway? Do you want a large or small university? A major obstacle for students looking for a college is the cost of the university. The cost is what holds back most students because they do not know how to pay for it. You should consider attending college fairs, where you will be able to meet with representatives from the universities and obtain more information on the university. The best way to get a feel of a college is by visiting the campus. Take a tour of the campus and ask questions about the college to your tour guide. By doing this you will have an opportunity to see the college in person and having more information to base your decision on.

Master Plan for My Community...

A master plan for my community that will make it a better place to live is providing more options for the kids growing up in the community, especially teenagers. By providing more programs and associations this kids will not get involved in negative situations. These programs will help them make beneficial decisions in their lifetime. They will know what is right from wrong and what will be useful to them in the future. they will also be taught not to give into temptation and peer pressure. They will know that their education should always be their priority ans this priority should not be intervened by peer pressure to for example experiment with drugs or join a gang. The programs held for these teenagers will also provide tutoring if kids are having trouble with their academics. By providing students with these programs there will not be as many students on the streets doing negatives things and there would be more students looking forward to their future and get involved in things that will benefit themselves.

My Typical Day...

My typical day begins with me waking up and going to the bathroom to brush my teeth and get ready for school. After I have brushed my teeth I return to my bedroom and make my day, then I walk to my closet and look for clothes to wear that day. I choose what to wear based on the type of weather for the day and the mood that I am feeling. If the weather is hot i wear something light and bright colors, if the weather is cold I would wear something that will keep me warm.Also if I am feeling lazy i would choose anything casual to wear. After I have figured out what to wear I proceed to my moms room because I like to get ready in her room. When i finish getting ready I go to the kitchen and grab something to eat if I am hungry. After I'm done eating breakfast I leave for school. During school i attend all of my classes for the day and complete the work that is given to me for the class. When school is over I come home and eat, I usually watch television for a little while so after I could begin my homework. Before I get started on my homework I shower and then begin my homework. After I am finished with any homework I complete any chores that I have been told to do. This is usually my typical during the school week , my schedule changes whenever an event comes up.

Vegetable I Truly Dislike...

One of the vegetables that i truly dislike are onions. I cannot have onions in any of my dishes because i will not eat the food. I am very particular about the food that i eat and especially if one of the ingredients in the dish is onions. If the dish does contain onions I have to be able to see it so I can take it out of the food. When my mom cooks she knows that I dislike onions and that I cannot not eat them if they are in my food. She is kind enough to cut pieces of onions big enough so that I can see them in my dish or she warns me if the dish contains onions. I dislike onions because I do not like their smell or taste. I have not had an experience in the past or resent that has made me dislike onions, They are just not my preference when it comes to a vegetable. Also besides not being able to eat onions when being asked to cut up an onion i also can not do that because when you cut an onion the smell is strong and i dislike it, also it makes my eyes watery which i do not like. Onions are definitely a vegetable that i truly dislike.

Favorite Season...

My favorite season is Fall because it is a season where there are a couple of holidays. The first one is Halloween in the begining of October everyone gets into the Halloween spirit, they begin to put up Halloween decorations and during mid October people begin to buy Halloween costumes. Halloween is a Holiday to dress up as anything you want to be, scare people or get scared, go to parties, and most importantly have fun. The next is Holiday is Thanksgiving , after Halloween everyone takes down their Halloween decorations and puts up Thanksgiving decorations. Thanksgiving is a time to be spent with family and cherish what you have because not everyone as fortunate. Also during the Fall the colors of the leaves change and become brown, orange, yellow, and red. Nature develops beautiful colors and transcends to a new era. During the Fall it is mostly chilly and the perfect season to cuccle with that special someone. Fall is composed of a lot of things not just these, this is why it is my favorite season.

Brothers ans Sisters

Brothers and sisters do not always get along based on the simple fact that they are different genders. In most cases this does not matter but the majority of times this is the case. They do not get along because they might not have similar things in common t talk about or they can not talk about certain subjects with one another. they believe that they can not have a relationship because they are different genders that they will not understand one another. This can create problems within a family because the brother and sister will not develop a relationship because they can not talk about certain subjects and all they will do is fight. They will be arguing any chance that they can and not understand each other because they never developed a brother sister relationship. Another reason why they will not get along is because they will have different opinions about a subject and they will disagree and that can lead to an argument. The family members of course will not like this type of behavior within their family. A solution to the problem ids that the brother and sister learn to talk to each other and be open minded about each others opinions. This will create less arguments and there will be less tension between the brother and sister.

Semester Essay #4

(Many schools employ security guards and have installed security equipment such as video cameras and metal detectors in the building. In your opinion, how should security in public schools be handled? Use specific reasons and examples to support your answer.)

            Many schools have implemented a strict security system on their campuses. They have

installed things such as video cameras, metal detectors, and have added several more security

guards on their campus. The reason many schools want to implement this is because they feel it

is necessary for all the students that bring weapons, drugs, or any other illegal substances into the

school. They want to interfere and search them before they step foot on the campus. In my

opinion I do not believe that schools should have these installations in their school campuses.

         Installing security cameras and placing them in various sections around the school is a

controversial topic among students, parents, and law enforcement officials. Installing security

cameras is a form of invasion of privacy. This will make not only students but teachers as well

feel uncomfortable while they are on the school campus. Also the security cameras do not have

restrictions where they are placed. At times they are placed in an area where they are not suppose

to be allowed. For example they are placed at an entrance of a bathroom or maybe even in a

locker room. By placing these video cameras on school campuses privacy rights will be

restricted. Students will no longer feel safe and might not even want to attend the school after

security cameras have been implemented.

       Another security equipment being installed in schools are metal detectors. They have

been implemented in especially large schools, they are usually located at the main entrance of the

school campus. When they arrive to the metal detector they are asked to empty their pockets, and

their backpacks have to be searched. By checking all students in this procedure may cause them

to be late for class and omit then from a lesson. Not only students go through this procedure,

teachers  also  have to go through the procedure. Teachers will have also lost time out of their

lesson because in the mornings it is when they prepare their day and lessons for the school day.

Also everyone that steps foot in the campus like parents have to go through the metal detector

procedure and might feel it is an invasion of their privacy and even might file a complaint toward

the school because they shouldn’t be allowed to invade someone privacy in that way.

        Installing these types of security equipments in school grounds should not be allowed. It

is an invasion of privacy students, teachers, and parents will feel uncomfortable and feel it is not

right. Students and teachers spend a majority of their day on school grounds and installing

security cameras and metal detectors will cause tension among everyone. Since teachers and

students do spend most of their day at school, schools are seen as a second home to them and

they should have a right that school feels like a home to them. There should be other ways of

resolving vandalism in schools.

College Admission Test..

In order to pass a college admission test you should be well prepared for it. You should study everything that you know for certain would be on the test and everything that you think will also be on the test. You should study for at least for a couple of days before the test. Besides only studying for more help you could also ask someone to help you an explain anything  that is unclear to you, you could also have more sources and not base all your knowledge solemnly on your notes. You should have other sources within your reach because your notes may not contain all of the information on the subject and other sources will provide that for you as well as other things regarding the subject. First you should study what seems harder for you so you would have more time to try to understand it a little bit better. Then you should progress to what seems easier to you and leave that for a few days before the test. the night before the test you should get a good sleep so you will not be tired during the test. In the morning you should have a good breakfast to boost your energy. These steps will achieve your goal and you will be able to pass the college admission test.

How to End A Relationship..

The way to end a relationship is always based on the type of person you may be. You could be the type of person  that likes to do things straight forward and say what is on your mind or you may be the type of person that is more settle about the situation. Some people prefer to talk to the person they are breaking up with in person. During their conversation they would say why they want to end the relationship; what the problems are, what is not working out and the feelings involved. They want to make clear that there are no misunderstandings by talking it out. Other people prefer to not give any explanation, they would just tell their partner that the relationship is going to end. There are other people who will not want to end the relationship in person for whatever reason. There are many different ways to end a relationship, people usually choose different ways because it is based on their personality. But every way to end a relationship should be without misunderstandings and with an explanation.

Make a New Friend...

ypou can normally make a new friend in any setting. Ypu have to keep your mind open for signs that someone wants to befriend you. You usually look for signs like if a person smiles or makes eye contact. If you get a good intuiton about someone, smile and introduce yourself. begin to make a conversation with them and usually if that goes well that is a good sign. Bgin to share some details about yourself with the person. They will see that you are comfotable talking about it and maybe they will share some details about themselves with you. This is usually a good way to figure out if both of you share the same interests. If you do you can think anout getting together some other time and talk about those interests in common. If you really enjoyed each others company and had fun it could be the begining of a wonderful friendship.

Favorite Game...

My favorite game is the board game monopoly. Monopoly is composed of forty spaces containing twenty eight properties, eight pieces, a variety of American bills, and two dice. The object of the game is to win the most money. Each person gets a chance to role the dice when their turn comes and they move the piece they have chosen around the board. When it is their turn where ever the person lands they have the option to buy the property or not. When purchasing a property make sure that it is a good purchase and it will benefit you. If you decide to purchase the property when ever another person's piece lands on your property they have to pay you the corresponding amount of money. This applies to all of the players. Monopoly is my favorite game because it is not only a fun game that could be enjoy by friends and family but you are also taught to  make good purchasing decisions and how to manage your money.

Effects of Prejudice...

Prejudice is an unfavorable opinion or feeling formed beforehand or without knowledge, thought or reason. Prejudice stems from many things and can come from any person during anytime. It can also be part of the person since birth because that is what they are taught. Prejudice can also exists in a town, state, or country, in most cases it ends in violence.  Racial prejudice is one of the most common types of prejudice. People form opinions about other races and spread their opinion to other people. In most cases the opnions being spread are negative. When the opnions or comments are spread people will misjudge the race and will not be accepted into society bu those people who began to form those negative comments. racial prejudice is wrong because peole have no right to go about spreading comments about other races. It can lead to consequences because most of the time the race being attacked can no longer handle the situation and will want to take matters into their own hands or the situation can become deadly.

Impulse Buying...

Most of the time we get caught up in an item that we think we must have it. It could be because it is the newest item that just came out to the market or because of a quality it has. We are so caught up thinking we have to purchase it. We do not think about the qualities of the item or new benefits it will bring to us. We do not stop to think what will be the best item for us we just go straight for the one we see. Impulse buying has consequences, it is an unplanned decision to buy a product or service. Emotions and feelings play a decisive role in this purchase. When an impulse purchase is made it could often lead to financial difficulties depending on the item , family dissaproval, or feeling guilt or dissappointment. Impulse buying is only a desired item, it is not a reasonable purchase and we do not hink about the details of buying when we are drawn to the item.

Visitor From Another Planet...

Pollution is the introduction of harmful substances or products into the emvironment. There re many different types of pollution, one of them being air pollution. Air pollution has been rising to an all time high over the past years. it is caused from facrories, buses, cars, fires, and power plants. Air polluion is not only harmful to the environment but it is also harmful to humans. Humans an acquire asthma )an allergic disorder of respiration) . Air pollution makes the air unhealthy and dangerous. Air pollution is also responsible for the damege that is done to the ozone layer. There are other types of pollution such as water pollution, land pollution, and many more. Pollution is not a topi to be taken lightly because itis harmful to both our planet and us humans.

Modern Life Without Computers...

Technology is advancing everyday, people come up with new types of devices to communicate and advance our world. With this new technology people have become more accustom and reliable on technology. They no longer use a dictionary as a source for a definition or use a map to find their way. They prefer to use the internet which is the number one resource that peole choose to use. Computers are dominated over people's lives. Everyone seems to own one and use it as much as possible. People rely on computers for pretty much anything. Most jobs require computers to keep the information of the company to see how well it is doing and not only do they use a computer for that but also to be in contact with other businesses, it is their way to communicate with them and see what their competition is. Computers have also become essential to students. Students no longer have to go directly to the library to get any research they might need for a project instead they can find mostly everything they need with a computer. Computers are not only used by companies and students ,but also but everyone else. They have become an essential tool in our technology and our lives would be the same without them because they are a faster resource for whenever we may need something.

Serena Williams...

Since I have been playing high school tennis for three years now, I have learned how to play the sports and have watched professional players in their matches. Someone that stood out to me while watching a tennis match was Serena Williams. She was born September 26, 1981, in Saginaw Michigan. Serena Williams and her sister Venus became star's of womens tennis in the late 1990's. Serena was a child prodigy who began to play tennis before she reached kindergarten. Serena won a major tournament by claiming the singles title at the 1999 U.S Open. Her other major titles are Wimbledon in 2003, 2009, and 2010, the Australian Open in 2005, 2007, 2009, and 2010, and the U.S. Open in 2008. The events in Serena's life have shaped her achievements becasue she was introduced to tnnis at a very young age and learned to dominate the sport. Being the only African-American in pro tennis along with her sister Venus , made her want to be the best she could be.Becasue she had a motivation and becasue she was a prodigy at a young age she was able to obtain numerous titles and become one of the best pro women tennis player.

Good Driver...?

There are many different types of test that you can take that will categorize you as a good driver or a not so good driver. These tests are mainly composed of questions that ask about behavior and different types of techniques. If you have a more agrexxive personality and usually do not go by all of the driving rules you will most likely be categorized as a not so good driver. What makes a person a good driver would be someone who does not get angry so easily while driving. For instance if there is a pedestrian that is crossing a street but there is not a crosswalk no where near by a good driver will let the pedestrian pass instead of hinking and speeding up to try to pass before the pedestrian, like would an angry driver would do. A good driver would always give the right of way to a pedestrian. Also a good driver would always follow the all the right things when it comes to driving. They will obey all the rules and make sure that they are being safe drivers while they are behind a driving wheel.

What is Special About Me...?

Everyone has a unique personality that distinguishes them apart from everyone else. It may be because they have a special talent or one of their personality characteristics. Whatever it may be people will usually recognize them because of their uniqueness, that is usually how most people recognize someone. Everyone has something special about them that make them a unique individual. What makes me special are the experiences I have gone through in my life. These experiences have made me the person that I am today. They have shaped my personality and made me have a different out look on how I see life. I was forced to mature at a very young age and come upon things that were confusing to me and that I did not know how to handle them. My experiences that life has put on me  have made me a stronger person and Ive learned to be defensive when the occasion is put in front of me. What makes me special are my life experiences they have shaped me into the person I am today, my experiences is what makes me a unique individual.

Internet

The Internet has become an essential tool for modern life. Users and providers turn to the Internet mostly for anything and have dependent on the Internet whenever tehy need to search for something. Users use the Internet to search for news not only locally but also globally. It is also used to do reasearch whenever you are assigned a task at school or at work. Some people also use it to keep up with celebrities and what is going on in their life and upcoming events. The Internet holds mostly any information from around the world not only within your country. The internet also has many benefits you could find a job, a reasonable price for a car, and living options. For providers the use the internet as a form of investment because some providers put their products on the interent to sell and make profit. The use the advancement of the internet to sell their products worldwide and inform people of the product they are selling.

Cooperation

The definition of cooperation is an act of working or acting together for a common purpose or benefit. What cooperation means to me is that when you are placed in a group to do an assignment or when you might need the help of someone that group or person will be here to help you. In group assignments it is everyone responsibility to do a part of the assignment, this way the assignment will be finished in time and everyone will receive a grade because they put effort in the assignment. If certain people from the group did not want to do their part of the assignment then the assignment would be delayed, it will take more time to complete the assignment, and more work will be put on the other group members because they will now have to complete extra work. Now the group will no longer receive an appropriate grade because not everyone cooperated in fulfilling their tasks. This like in many cases cooperation plays a major role in the assignment. People are giving certain tasks and are expected to complete them, but if they do not complete them they have now put more work upon the other group members and may have jeopardized their assignment. This is why cooperation is important to me. If you have the cooperation of someone you will have more help and be able to fulfill a task faster and more efficient.

Pride in One's Work

It is important to have pride in one's work becasue if we did not, the effort put into the work would be very poorly. If we put effort, time, and dedication to one's work we would feel good about the outcome of our work. But if we did not put any effort into our work we would not do our best and not really think of it as important to us. We will feel forced to complete the work and not take it seriuosly. If we took pride into the work that we do we would be serious about it and would want to do our best. Once we complete it we will be pride of what we accomplished and get rewarded, but even if there was no reward involved it wuldnt matter bcasue we would have an example of what we are capable of doing if we put effort and pride in our work. We should always try to do our best when we are being asssigned a task to do because in the end the person that will benefit from the expierence and learn how to go through the expierence will be yourself. We should always be proud in all the work we accomplish.

Diversity

The meaning of diversity is variety;different. Diversity is in our everyday life, we may not pay close attention to it but it surrounds us everywhere we look. For example when we go shopping and we have a variety of stores to choose from to do our shopping and within those stores we also have variety because there are different types of clothe that form different types of styles we can choose from. Within the variety of clothes they also come in different colors that we can also chose from. There is a variety of stores and clothes we can choose from, we do not have to restrict ourselves to a specific style of dressing, we have options and variety because we have a diversity within the stores. Another example of diversity is music. There are so many types of genres in the music industry from which we can choose from. There is a variety of artist and music styles that accommodate every ones preference. Like the shopping stores music is not categorized to one certain type of genre, it comes with variety and diversity.

Communication

Communication has changed drastically in the lat 20 years. 20 years ago the only way of probably communicating with someone was either talking to them face to face or write if there was ink available. Communication has evolved over the years. New ways there are to communicate now are through a call, text message, email, or the old fashioned way is mailing a letter. The most common ones that are used are a text message, email, or a phone call. These are the ones that people mostly use because they are the types of communication that are more advanced and easier to access. Probably the most effective would be a text message because mostly everyone owns a cellphone and it it easier for them to just pick up the cellphone and send a text. People also choose a text message because they do not always want to be using a call to communicate. Over the past 20 years communication has changed and i believe it will keep changing and new ways of communicating will be invented because technology advances everyday.

Techniques or Methods for teachers

Some technique and methods teachers can use to do their job more effectively is come up with ways that students will be more involved in their lectures and enjoy them. They could have lectures that the students will find interesting and be appropriate for their ages, but most importantly still be learning what they are suppose to. Different age groups need different ways to be approached with a subject. The younger the age group the easier it is for the teacher because they usually become involved by a doing a fun activity or game. With an older age group teachers need to be more creative with how they teach their lectures because most students will find the lectures to be boring and will not be involved or pay attention to the teacher. For this age group teachers would nee to do a little research to figure out what the students are into and how those hobbies can be incorporated in a lecture so the students will actually want to participate in the lecture. If a teacher can come up with ideas in which the students will enjoy the lectures and will want to go to their class, they will definitely get more out of the students and perform outstanding.

Conveniences

Conveniences can change peoples lives because when something is convenient it is anything that saves or simplifies work; little effort or difficulty. When someone has conveniences at the palm of their hand they do not require to do any work in order to receive that convenience. You will become accustomed to not having to do any effort in order to receive something, you will expect to have the conveniences whenever you demand them. Conveniences can also be a positive thing because say if someone is having a bad day or something is going wrong, a convenient can make the situation better. With a convenience you day can go from being horrible to not so bad after all, and it's all thanks to the convenience. Conveniences are both negative and positive, but in my opinion you can turn a negative convenience into a positive. For example if conveniences are at the palm of your hand people shouldn't be so caught up with the fact that they are available to them, They should use those conveniences and help other people in a time of need or not be dependant on the conviences.

Achieving Fame and Fortune

I personally think that there are two common ways a person can achieve fame and fortune. One being they work hard for it or it is simply passed down to them because the fame and fortune is already within the family. In my opinion a person that works hard for their fame and fortunate cherishes it more than a person who is handed down the fame and fortune. I believe this because one who works hard in order to achieve something treasures it more because of all the experiences they had to face along the way. They had to surpass obstacles and failures and these events made them a stronger person. Once they reach fame and fortune they look back and see all the things that they went through and think it was worth it. A person that fame and fortune is just handed to them will not cherish it as much or it will not feel as special to them because they did not hard to work for it to earn. In most cases they will not cherish it and just become arrogant because they have fame and fortune.

Environmental Problem

A major environmental problem is global warming. With global warming comes a lot of affects to the planet and to us. A widespread and long-term trends toward warmer global temperatures are heat waves and periods of unusually warm weather, ocean warming, sea level rise and coastal flooding, glaciers melting, Artic and Antarctic warming. Events that foreshadow the types of impacts likely to become more frequent and widespread with continued warming are spreading, of diseases, earlier spring arrival, planet and animal range shifts and population changes, coral reef bleaching, downpours, heavy snowfall and flooding, and droughts and flooding. If we pay attention to our surrounds some of these things are happening now. Glaciers are melting because the water is becoming warmer so the glaciers melt. There are floods in many countries in which could lead to diseases because of the contaminating water. Global warming should not be an issue taken lightly, we need to find different ways to prevent it and keep our planet safe.

Semester Essay #3

School cafeterias should be required to provide low-fat/ vegetarians lunch options to

accommodate the eating habits of all students. There needs to be variety in school lunches

because there is diversity in the student body and different eating habit based on their culture and

ethnicity. Every household is unique and has its own culture within it; they are based on

culture and ethnicity. Most students tend to bring their home culture to school. It is in the school

cafeteria where cultural differences can show up and conflict with what is being served in school

lunch rooms. Some students believe that school food choices violate their religious culture.

The standard school lunches include hamburgers, fries and pizza. In some cultures people

are not allowed to eat meat and may only eat food items that are vegetarian. School cafeterias do

not provide variety when it comes to school lunch. They only go based on what the majority of

students like to eat for lunch. They do not think about the different cultures there are and the

restrictions that some of these cultures have on the food that can be consumed by them. When a

culture restricts their followers from eating meat and the school cafeteria is serving meat on a

certain day there should always be other options so the students that cannot eat meat have

another option of food instead of being obligated to one option.

            Also most school cafeteria lunches are unhealthy options. Students spend most of their

day at school and are only given unhealthy food options. School vending machines only provide

students with candy, chips, soda, and juice, which is all unhealthy. Not only do vending

machines provide unhealthy choices but when lunch time comes it is also more unhealthy

options. Food served for lunch in schools do not provide low-fat options that students have an

option of choosing over a hamburger or any other unhealthy food. Because these types of food

options are only offered to students obesity rate in children is increasing along with diabetes in

children. 

            School cafeterias should provide students with options when it comes to school lunch.

Some students cultures may prevent them from eating certain food items, school lunches do not

provide them with options in which they can choose what to eat. Other students may be

vegetarians and choose to not eat meat for a personal reason and school cafeterias do not serve

foods that accommodate them. But most importantly there should be food options that are low-

fat and healthy. School lunches should come in a variety because there is diversity within the

students and students should have options on what they can eat during school hours.

Public Health Concern

There are many health concerns in the world , but one I believe that is a serious concern is cancer. There are many types of cancer and cancer that can form in mostly any part of your body. Treatments for cancer is both expensive and painful. The treatments range from chemotherapy to painful medication. There are only certain types of cancer that are curable and other that are not. For those types of cancers that are not curable the only thing a doctor can do for you is give you medication. You will have to live with the pain which is unbearable. People should not be able to go through this. There neeeds to be more alternatives for dealing with this deadly disease. One in which the percentage of surviving cancer should be higher and people who are diagnosed with cancer should not suffer when their type of cancer is not curable.

Teenage Smoking

Teenagers usually get involved in smoking either because of their environment or because of their family and friends. If a teenager is living in an environment where the majority of the people are smoking they might want to get involved in smoking because they assume its the common thing people do since they see it in their environment. Another reason is that their family member s might smoke and see their family as a role model and might begin to believe that smoking is a good thing. Or their family might not be attentive with them and are looking for attention and decide to take up smoking in order to receive that attention. Friends are also a major influence in whether a teenager smokes or not because their friends encourages them that its the "cool" thing that everyone is doing and they should try it in order to be"cool." Problems from smoking result in lack of air whenever doing any physical activity. One major problem of smoking is cancer. You will be faced with cough and the inability to catch your breath. Another major problem is becoming addicted to smoking.
